1. Mr. Beer Belly - December 30, 2006

My fingers hurt just watching that.

He’s pretty damn good!

2. Anita - January 1, 2007

WOW, very cool. Just stumbled it (which could bring you WAY more than 100 hits).

3. David - January 1, 2007

He’s damned good. Born to play, if you were to ask me. Stumble upon got me here too, just like Anita.

4. stumbluh - January 1, 2007

another stumbler, woulda been nice to see/hear him play without all the backgrounds to see how good he really was.

5. darkblackcorner - January 1, 2007

That is very awesome. wish I could play that well 😦

6. Beece - January 1, 2007

Stumbled here too, awesome. I caouldn’t even attempt that!

7. steve - January 1, 2007

great ! thanks for posting. Is that a Fender?
a Limerick is all I have

Check it out:

There was a young chick from Natchez
Whose blouses was always in patchez….

When a comment arose…
and-they-dissed-on- her-clothes,

She went, “When Ah Itchez, Ah Scratchez”

Happy New Year!

8. Lora 2.1 - January 1, 2007

Another stumbler here. I’m jealous of that kid!

9. Charltina - January 1, 2007

Awesome His parents definitely are not wasting money in guitar lessons. I stumbled here what a great stumble for the New Year. A gifted young musician. Now lets hope His parents know… for wouldn’t it be a travesty if he is flunking chemistry and they so riding him on that they are unaware he has talent… It can happen so let’s hope he has great parent’s behind that guitar who listen and encourage him to do his passion. For life doesn’t end with chemistry, although if he needs a tutor in a subject by all means get him one. However wealth of spirit and life comes with doing one’s passion. Wish someone had told us that before we figured it out at 40.

10. Music Mad - January 1, 2007

stumbled upon this too,,,
Hes amazing,,,
was it that speed or did he speed it up…coz its hard to bilieve he can play that fast,,,his fingers were ablur!!!

11. Rhapsody! ... - January 1, 2007

Lessons? No Way Charltina, That Kid is Self taught, I can Tell! …

12. Charltina - January 1, 2007

Smiles over at Rhapsody* Well met but what a gift.( Happy New Year to You Rhapsody and to all that stumble here and get a New Year’s present unexpectedly.

13. JeffLebow - January 1, 2007

I’m a stumbler too…and I am amazed! I love guitar music!!

14. Undeaded - January 1, 2007

Stumbler:

That’s not that amazing. I’ve seen people play better than that at the age of 15.

15. Estelle66 - January 1, 2007

Wow! Freddie Mercury would have loved you.

16. JamieC - January 1, 2007

Definately – Lessons won’t get you that far, and would limit your ability. Clearly self-taught, always the best route.

17. god - January 1, 2007

STUMBLERS FTW!!! And your pretty damn good

18. ale de luzuriaga - January 1, 2007

I like the arrangement. el guitarrista tiene un poco de hambre pero el que hizo el arreglo es un capo.

19. scott - January 1, 2007

wow what a remarkable talent it is obvious that this talented young man could well be on his way to stardom if that is his choiceif not then perhaps writing will be his gift to the world .It would be nice to know his name to follow his progress

20. Jasonsan - January 1, 2007

Another Stumbler. He is amazing. One of the best rock Cannons I have ever heard.

21. kendalboatsman - January 1, 2007

I stumbled in as well, had seen the clip when it first was released, but even now it is just amazing. And I totally agree with Estelle66, Freddie Mercury would have loved that track. So classically Queen.

22. nickt - January 1, 2007

insane!
stumbled it also

23. stardustnf - January 1, 2007

Absolutely incredible…..what an amazing talent!!

24. OMG - January 1, 2007

ANOTHER GUITAR VIDEO.

25. Apogee91 - January 1, 2007

irc junkie Stumbler here :p

26. benny - January 1, 2007

That was some of the best guitar playing I have ever heard. I stumbled here also and I didn’t know it was possible to play the guitar that well. I am quite a good musician, so I appreciated the extremely complicated variations on the theme. That guy should seriously consider becoming a professional guitar player. He moved his fingers so fast they bust have started hurting badly!

27. Navin - January 1, 2007

This is not a kid, he’s a 20-something Korean guy who goes by the pseudonym “Funtwo”. A self-taught virtuoso and amazing talent. Check out his version of Dream Theater’s “Overture 1928” > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Se12JGfpCdY

28. illlogickill - January 1, 2007

I hope that kid changes his mind and does play a guitar in a band or something, it would be a loss to the world to keep a talent like that to himself.

Good stumble Anita! 😀

29. Guitar_man 200t - January 1, 2007

wow absolutely awesome !!!! jealous to death lol what an amazing and talented young man a pleasure to listen to I will bookmark and listen often

30. DJS - January 1, 2007

Wow, all these stumbles on new years day…
Great job kid, you should go do Trans Siberian or something…

31. DJS - January 1, 2007

Oh, lol “Vid a Day” different one each day…

^^^^^^^^^^ IS A MORON ^^^^^^^

32. SippieCup - January 1, 2007

rofl, this is a cover of jerryc’s

jerryc’s doesnt screw up ^^ check him out hes sick =p

33. Chuck - January 1, 2007

Stumbled. Canon is the most beautiful song ever, and this guitar rendition is incredible.

34. chris mankey - January 1, 2007

Wow, it’s clear that this video isn’t even real! The guitar track is just superimposed over him randomly plucking the strings!

35. BuckmastaJ - January 1, 2007

Stumbled also, great vid I am going to start forwarding this around to anyone I know who hasn’t seen it yet.

I do agree I wish there was less background so you could hear the kid alone but oh well. Maybe there are other videos of this dude around?

36. CeaselessMedik - January 1, 2007

Stumbled here, saw it first on Soapbox. the timing seemed off there so I thought he was finger-syncing, but if it was on TV then I’ll believe it’s legit.

37. Greenie - January 1, 2007

Stumbled here… It’s an ESP, not a very nice one though 😉

38. Josh - January 1, 2007

Wow, so many comments, it’s hard to respond to them! I’ll start out by saying that he is definitely not a fake. I don’t know much about guitars, but I am told by people who do that he does make a few mistakes. If he wasn’t actually playing it, there would be no mistakes. This guitar player’s online alias is FunTwo, and there are many more videos of him on YouTube.

Thanks a load to Anita, who stumbled this in the first place. I am now number 1 in fastest growing blogs on WordPress, and have received over 2000 views today.

39. Mackerel - January 1, 2007

that is very impressive! Another Stumbler, another New Years Day. No, that’s not a Fender.

40. zach - January 1, 2007

this is the admin

remarkably, that is really him. when you are that good, you don’t event think. your fingers go when they are supposed to do. he is a beast. I appreciate all the views and positive comments.

41. T$ - January 1, 2007

another stumbler!

all i can say is wow.

42. Timourinho - January 1, 2007

Stumbled too. This kid is very talented !!! awesome !

43. Gan - January 1, 2007

It sounds similar to Steve Vai

44. Adrian - January 1, 2007

I stumbled here, too. He’s REALLY good…I wish I could play like that!

45. tmerritt - January 1, 2007

Awesome! Fantastic stumble for the first day of the year!

46. Abdulateef - January 1, 2007

Another Stumbler 🙂

Man that’s AWESOME playing , i wish i could someday play like him .

That kid have some future.. but he’s not thinking about it heh

47. TOM - January 1, 2007

YES INDEED!!!!!!>>>THANK YOU STUMBLE!!>>.IS ALWAYS A GOOD TIME STUMBLING HERE!!!!

48. umilde - January 1, 2007

Hallo Stumblers,
I also stumbled in here.
Great guitar player
Phantastic. Congragulations.
Grretings from Germany.

49. MissB - January 1, 2007

Great playing. I stubled here also and definitely like it…

50. Joe D - January 1, 2007

Like those before – I Stumbled. Some day look for this kid’s name to be added to the list of the giants like of Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Buddy Guy, BB King, Jeff Beck, Roy Buchannan….. what a gift. Send this link to anyone at the Berkely School of Music.

51. Jshine - January 1, 2007

Lol, I’m as well a Stumbler who got here by that very sort. And this kid is good, I’m glad I stumbled here.

52. Ivan - January 1, 2007

I think this guy is amazing and obviously loves what he does. I too chose not to make music a career as it would make it a “job”. Not everyone wants to sell their talent. As for the poster that knows better 15 yr. olds, I never heard this guy say he was better than anyone. Always a naysayer in the crowd. Post your latest concert, undeaded, so we can judge you.

53. jezlurkin - January 1, 2007

Stumbled as well.

What a world where I can sit in my home, and discover talent like that from across the world.

We live in an age of amazement.

54. Couldn’t help watching « Marching into the unknown - January 1, 2007

[…] Couldn’t help watching I first saw this clip on https://vidaday.wordpress.com/2006/12/30/amazing-guitarist/, I really cannot resist the great guitarist’s awesome performance. Below is the original clip on Youtube. […]

55. Josh - January 1, 2007

As it turns out, we didn’t do our homework here at Vid A Day. He is not actually kid. He is a 23 year old man from South Korea. He has been playing the guitar for six years.

56. Rawr - January 1, 2007

Stumbled as well.

57. guven - January 1, 2007

Another Stumbler:))

This kid is amazing.

58. zach - January 1, 2007

Josh, this video was made about 2 years ago. that is only 4 years of practice and a 21 year old man

59. Jareth - January 1, 2007

yep, i stumbled it as well, damn that guy is good, i’d like to hear it without the drums in its raw form, but DAMN, he is good, props to him

60. Andrew - January 1, 2007

WO hoo! hello fellow stumblers! great vid seen this a million times always love it

61. Moofman - January 2, 2007

I’ve been playing guitar for a while, and it is clearly not a fake video, and for the people who are like “wow his fingers must hurt from playing fast” that is actually the exact opposite, it hurts less when playing fast, since your fingers are barely touching the strings to produce the sound, and I’m guessing your referring to the “rake style” of the song at those points where its an arpeggio but using a metal-esk style of technique to produce the sound. But back to the video, yes I enjoy it, great job to whoever wrote it and to who plays it nice job, good sync, a few mess ups but anyone that doesn’t play guitar won’t notice at all anyway. Keep up the good work there

62. Dan - January 2, 2007

Oh so very old.

63. Chris Hess - January 2, 2007

Yes, this kid is good.

Check out Trace Bundy for another version of this song.

http://www.tracebundy.com
myspace.com/tracebundy

And your mind will be blown.

64. Daniel - January 2, 2007

I am going to Start playing the guitar soon, I can only hope to be half as good as this person is, (stumbled too -ty anita for marking it)

65. Reggie - January 2, 2007

Stumbler too !

And yes, that’s guy’s good ! I think it’s the second video he made, I already saw him on another video playing the same song.

66. axewielderx - January 2, 2007

Hmmm, this guy is not all that great. Check out this one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATub40Npxik Now he is way better! And no, it is not me!

67. notv - January 2, 2007

I wish I could watch this.

68. Amazing feet guitarist/手の無いギタリスト « ネオウト.Neouto.新烏托 - January 2, 2007

[…] Amazing feet guitarist/手の無いギタリスト これはすげー しかし、どうやでそのギターを持って帰る? Vid A Dayさんで見つけたギタリストも凄いけどな […]

69. halfeatendonut - January 2, 2007

Haha, it’s just another Version started by Jerry C. Now if you really want to see something really amazing… : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI1PfmDl8fo

70. tony - January 2, 2007

amazing stuff from funtwo!

71. Gizmy - January 2, 2007

Yeah, I love this song, even have it on my iPod.
Canon Rock performed by Funtwo, arranged by JerryC, awesome piece of guitaring.
Remake of a classic piece by Pachebel.

72. FractuSystem - January 2, 2007

has anybody here heard name of malmsteen?
yes I think this guy plays pretty well but I don’t think he’s one of the best players in the world.Cause there’s already Vai,Petrucci etc. But maybe after a few years of hardwork,he can be one of them!

73. ebitmanagement - January 2, 2007

Amazing. He should devote his life to music and composing.

🙂

74. Matt - January 2, 2007

god half the guitar videos i stumble across are in this campy 80s speed-metal style. i give props for it but come on…there are other ways to play guitar impressively.

75. Rebecca Aguilar - January 2, 2007

Why is the kid hiding his face with the baseball cap? Why does the music sound like it was studio produced? What is amazing is what we can do with video.

76. Renji - January 2, 2007

Stumbled~

Very interesting, indeed.

77. Mai - January 2, 2007

stumbler here! coolness!

78. plpntbll - January 2, 2007

i stumbeld here also hes great! thats amazing

79. Stumbling Stumbler - January 2, 2007

Stumble upon rocks. This guy is pretty fucking good at the guitar

80. Jon Jon - January 2, 2007

Hahaha
I Stumbled On This
Stumbling Maybe The Best Thing Ever

This Kid Is Beast

81. Cobra - January 2, 2007

stumbled also

This kid is awesome, he should consider a musical career, if not playing guitar than possibly writing music. either way the music would be awesome. He is possibly the best guitar player I have ever heard! Amazing, it guitar solo dragon force would be jealous of.. in fact, it even sounded like them! He should be their lead guitarist!

82. supreme bape - January 2, 2007

stumbled, but this vid has been up on youtube and others for days.
them’s some fast fingers.

83. n/a - January 2, 2007

This video is so old…. To add, many people have done this same song with no problem.

84. leighanne - January 2, 2007

stumbled here aswell, hello fellow stumblers
happy new year
fantastic

85. GoofyMonkey - January 2, 2007

Holy crap! you can’t tell this kid as good with all the background “nosie”? Press mute and you can still tell this kid is great!

86. Wookey - January 2, 2007

Stumbler here too, how nice to see you all!

That kid has talent to spare, so why won’t he give me some??

Wookey
x

87. Robbo - January 2, 2007

Very good, seen better, ie faster and mostly improv. still a talent id love to have

88. the larch - January 2, 2007

can someone tell me why anyone would want to play like this guy? I can’t think of anything more boring – give him some long hair and some spandex and let him dick about on 10 minute solos, but he’ll still be boring and still play with no feeling and no subtlety whatsoever. I can stand about 30 seconds of this drivel before my mind wanders off. There are SO MANY AMAZING MUSICIANS IN THE WORLD. This guy’s not one of them.

89. Moby » - January 2, 2007

[…] aber zu gut um katastrophal-cool zu sein, mehr aufmerksamkeit als der Rest der Welt. Nachdem ich das hier gesehen hab bin ich auch gut motiviert. When the Angels Sing klappt schon ganz gut, das Smoke on […]

90. Mister Mee - January 2, 2007

Stumbler too, it’s always the people who have no great interest in what they are doing rather than just having fun, that are the ones that are amazingly good at what ever it is there doing.

91. doug heffernan - January 2, 2007

stubled also. pretty amazing.

92. bubba-ga-nush - January 3, 2007

Wow only been here for a couple of days and a crap load of people stumbled it. BTW I did too. 😉 Thank you Stumble! And that kid is really damn good.

93. Beef Monger - January 3, 2007

Yeah, I stumbled, too. That was some rock, rock on stuffs.

I feel sad because he pwns me at vibratos…but I guess it’s a little harder on a bass lol.

Hehehehe…nice name, Doug…

94. MickeyD - January 3, 2007

NICE…
GO STUMBLERS!!!! thats how i got here, tho i have seen this b4… still awesome

95. flickrhoneys - January 3, 2007

Ahh, canon rock. A tough piece, no doubt 🙂 I mastered it in 3 minutes :P!

96. Soulwright - January 3, 2007

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing – my son has a PRS and plays all the time – I am sure it is helping him survive and thrive in highschool.

97. Bonnie - January 3, 2007

I stumbled here also! He is Awesome>>>>
It doesn’t matter to me how long he’s been practicing or how old he is
He is just awesome !!

98. littledevil93 - January 3, 2007

Dude your awesome I’m not nearly that good you could be the next Jimi Hendrix or Stevey Rayvoughn

99. Blk-Widow - January 3, 2007

im another stumbler…

100. Blk-Widow - January 3, 2007

i hear he cant put on a very good performance but if he could hed probably think twice about the music career

101. Jeremy - January 3, 2007

Ahahaha. I think you mean Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Hendrix is nothing compared to guitarists these days. He was innovative, but technically speaking, he would have trouble playing this piece.

He’s a pretty good guitarist. I can’t play anything like that, but comparing him with people i’ve watching, he’s not Ghandi or anything.

102. Jesse from Reno - January 3, 2007

Stumble stumble stumble
this kid fucking OWNS at guitar

103. marc - January 3, 2007

you wish dont you

104. K - January 3, 2007

holy crap . thats awesome. i wish i could play like that.’
stumble upon = insomnia. trust me, i know

105. jessica b. - January 3, 2007

i almost cried it was inspiring..so great, i loved his talent so what if people have seen younger or better, this kids still amazing. the people who have said they have seen better are clearly ignorant to respecting someones ability. half of those who said it was ok couldn’t do that if their lives depended on it.

i love stumble

106. b - January 3, 2007

Stumbled on in……….Amazing!

107. Chris - January 3, 2007

talented kid, way to go

108. Senjith - January 3, 2007

Stumble, and yes, amazing

109. Kevin - January 3, 2007

What an incredibly inspiring piece of guitar playing! The feelings this invoked inside of me are indescribable. I felt immense happiness and even got tears in my eyes. Simply fantastic. Its things like this that remind you how amazing human minds really are.

110. James - January 3, 2007

Very cool. Bit cheesy tho isn’t it? 🙂

111. plubius - January 3, 2007

Interesting…

112. boobs - January 3, 2007

Dragonforce anyone?

113. Running Fool - January 3, 2007

All I can say is WAY COOL DUDE

114. richard - January 3, 2007

stumblers of the world unite! i didnt know you could play that kind of music on a guitar, but as someone said the background music makes me wonder if he needs some music to guide him or if he just likes to “play along” either way hes very good, age doesnt matter, but i think that everyone should listen to more musicians… cause hes good, but not the best =)

115. locationstation - January 3, 2007

Carlos Santana, check it out and hire him as backup for your next tour or album. Smokin’.

116. aishel - January 3, 2007

Wow, talk about an old vid. I blogged about this back in August 🙂 And it made the NY Times back then.

117. raincoaster - January 3, 2007

“This video hs been up for days”??? I posted it back in February, and I stole it from another WordPress blog. I have heard that it’s more than a couple of years old, but what does it matter really?

It’s still gold, though. Absolutely worth watching again.

118. Anders - January 3, 2007

Such amazing talent.
Although he screwed it up a bit at the end – you can see him turn his head, looks like he’s thinking “damn, I was so close”. Great vid tho.
Stumbled here as everyone else

119. Chris - January 3, 2007

this is not talent. it’s lessons and practice and a complete bore. i’m assuming most of these posts are from non-musicians. LAME. Zzzzz

120. joe blogg - January 4, 2007

wicked

121. hobbylobby - January 4, 2007

Technically good, I suppose, but
I couldn’t listen to it for more than a few bars.
Would any really buy a cd of that to listen to repeatedly?

122. the constant skeptic - January 4, 2007

fake from beginning to end, good job moving the fingers to the music though, that took practice to get it right. very entertaining though, glad i stumbled upon it. ive been playing for 10 years. you can tell its fake because of the back up orchestra playing in the background, and the fact that he is sitting by his computer speakers…. if he can prove me wrong please do so here at http://www.constantskeptic.com. Until then, I remain constantly skeptical.

123. raincoaster - January 4, 2007

Seriously people, you need to watch right through to the end; the music does change. This video has indeed been questioned since it went up, but take a listen: SOMEONE played that. And here we have a kid who looks damn like it was him; why would it not be him?

124. JDMase - January 4, 2007

hey i’m a stumbler too but have seen the vid a few times. this guy is great. I also play guitar and it isnt fake, his name is funtwo and even does concerts now. There are more vids on youtube.com. He’s a legend and a very good guitarist..

125. Evannnnn - January 4, 2007

I stumbled here as well, although I believe I’ve seen an asian girl playing the same thing a while back on another site I’ve stumbled.

126. Three6s - January 4, 2007

Stumbler. One of my fav songs turned rock. I love it! Kid rules!

127. sami - January 4, 2007

stumbler! my best friend can play stuff like that and he’s that age… it’s not that unbelievable… if you’re actually dedicated to guitar and play a lot, you can get that good within a couple of years. and also it isn’t like he’s doing anything amazing. for amazing check out leo kottke… that’s some amazing guitar skills (at least on his album “one guitar, no vocals”

128. peter - January 4, 2007

holy crap, how many people stumbled on this? i didnt think stumble was quite a big thing, or that it would lead so many to the same thing. including me.

129. Mo0nrider - January 4, 2007

Where is the amazing guitarist?
😀

130. de sync - January 4, 2007

respect!!!

131. Josh - January 4, 2007

This video has been proven not to be fake. The reason he is sitting next to his computer speakers is because there is background music playing. He is only playing the guitar part.

132. Josh - January 4, 2007

I have an ethical/tech question for anyone who cares to answer it (please do!) Should I submit all my posts to Digg and Stumble Upon to generate more traffic, or should I let other readers do the submitting?

133. Ed - January 4, 2007

Better (very)late than never I guess lol

The originator of this was Jerry C (http://jerryc.co.uk/).
I was blown away the first time I saw his vid and it still rocks even now years later!

Good find!

134. Kooney - January 4, 2007

stumbler, amazing job

135. thaumetergica - January 5, 2007

Kudos to the guy.

I believe its pretty real,I mean even if he was faking, hes faking pretty damn well enough to actually do the song anyway.

eh,I’m usually a gibson/epiphone kinda guy though

136. DarkWolf - January 5, 2007

damn dude…i wish i could have that kinda talent…and damn alot of stumblers…im one to…gotta love it…any who…DAMN DUDE THIS KID IS AWSOME!!!!

137. uber - January 5, 2007

These comments… It’s as if no one had ever seen someone play guitar! lol

138. ayngelwing - January 5, 2007

Another Stumbler here :0)
Amazing playing, especially for his age. I’m so glad he’s shared it with us all.

139. Quinn - January 5, 2007

Holy…. wow
Stumble rocks

140. Nixta - January 5, 2007

The guy certainly has a rare talent…. something perhaps that the “knockers” wish they had but haven’t. It annoys the hell out of me that critics are so sure of themselves, yet have absolutely nothing to back up their statements. So what if he is in front of his pc?
Get a life! The guitarist has one for sure. Good on him!
Stumbling on!

141. Susan - January 5, 2007

Another stumbler here….
If it’s real….WOW!!! Sure hope Trans Siberian Orchrestra stumbles upon him and if it’s not real….great entertainment!!

142. Lady K - January 5, 2007

AWESSSOOOMMEEEE!!

143. YON LIR - January 5, 2007

AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW….
DO HE HAVE FACE ?

144. Aditya - January 5, 2007

a satriani or vai in making???

145. Sandra Vanni - January 5, 2007

I can’t believe I listened and really enjoyed him. Good for him.
I like the music.

146. asasa - January 5, 2007

He could be self taught, but his sitting position is like someone who is taught by lessons in the classical fasion. But then again, I am self taught and sit like that anyways.

Web Guitar Wizard Revealed at Last – New York Times
One of the most popular hits on this blog , since it was posted on Jan. 18th, has been this guitar video. Now the NY Times reveals “Who is this guy?” Turns out we had posted the original version, which later popularized with a version by a guy that called himself funtwo, who had added a drum track.

Eight months ago a mysterious image showed up on YouTube, the video-sharing site that now shows more than 100 million videos a day. A sinewy figure in a swimming-pool-blue T-shirt, his eyes obscured by a beige baseball cap, was playing electric guitar. Sun poured through the window behind him; he played in a yellow haze. The video was called simply “guitar.” A black-and-white title card gave the performer’s name as funtwo.
The piece that funtwo played with mounting dexterity was an exceedingly difficult rock arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon, the composition from the turn of the 18th century known for its solemn chord progressions and its overexposure at weddings. But this arrangement, attributed on another title card to JerryC, was anything but plodding: it required high-level mastery of a singularly demanding maneuver called sweep-picking.

171. puddlejumper - January 7, 2007

Came out of curiousity after WordPress noted you as a top post.

I have to say the guy is okay. Not unbelievably amazing but very competent. I used to play in a band and our guitarist (who was sixteen at the time) could play stuff like that with his eyes shut.

Good luck to the lad though. He does have a talent.

I play a little but no-where near that standard. The video looks real enough especially the odd bum note towards the end.

But I have to agree with halfeatendonut further up

is REAL genius.

i have to say ( this kid is good)
but seriously i know like 20 other people who are my age(16) who play thousands of times better, and no one knows shit about them, (yesthey do make and post vids on the web. jus because he played along to a remake to a classical song THAT ANOTHER BAND MADE I MIGHT ADD
does not make you a prodigy of any sort,
im not here to bag on him because he is good but im here to say that
you dont need to play a classical song TO BE GOOD i.e. this kid
P.s yes i do play guitar so i kno how hard those goddamn sweeps are
(i TREMOLO LIKE HIM

185. LEMORACE - January 10, 2007

oh yeah i stumbled

186. Chris Gordon - January 10, 2007

Not really a “rare” talent but a talent none the less. The piece itself is lovely so it makes you feel all those good things even without the guitar noise on top.

It’s good though, I enjoyed it warts and all and it’s interesting to read the non-musician, and non-guitarist comments. Guitarists know what this is, but that opinion is best kept secret as it upsets non-guitarist types too much.

Anyone catch the last G3 concert? now they play pretty damned well but it’s pretty uninspired except for Steve Vai whom I love a lot.

How about the guy dissin’ Hendrix like he couldn’t play this. Yes-way he could play this for sure mate. Hendrix had a lot of technical skill, however blues directed it was he had the chops to tacle this piece. You have to remember this guy has been practiceing up this thing to show off on you tube for how ever long?

187. Andy - January 10, 2007

Wooo…Not that exciting…In fact most of it is power chords with momentary shreds thrown in.

But yea anyone who has played for more then 5 year should be able to accomplish that especially with the amount of effects he has thrown onto it.

The sweeps are good but still the effects are what make it.

Play arpeggios from hell perfectly then I’ll be impressed.

194. Laynie - January 11, 2007

I just love Stumbler.

This particular canon has always been one of my favorite pieces of music, and an unconventional approach always makes it even more appealing if it’d done tastefully. This is most certainly done tastefully. While he plays with the music, he is true to the form of the piece. I enjoyed this very much and will probably show it off to my friends.

195. James - January 11, 2007

Excellent. But what a lot of knobs there are posting here. I read only the first 30 or so coments. Self-satisfied, pompous, stuck-up fuckwits, the lot of them. All experts in guitar, or soooo world weary in their experience in canons on the guitar. Why don’t you fucking shut up and enjoy it for what it is?

196. peter - January 12, 2007

Stumbled on this one….
Sounds great! I tried to play this song but it’s too fast for me so I use a kitchen mixer and that’s the clue to this whole thing! No seriously, he should make himself known!

197. margali - January 12, 2007

stumbled ….(suprise!!)

I like this Canon very much and I like also this virtuosic verion of it! Thanks!

198. Tamas - January 12, 2007

What definitely don’t need is another shredder. This kid is doing what others have been doing for ages. Malmsteen did Neo-Classical 20 years ago, and it was boring then. Yea, he can play fast, but he probably can’t write his own songs. There’s no feeling in his playing. It’s just fast.

199. Eleanor - January 13, 2007

Boring my ass. The word is timeless. That boy is mad if he’s not thinking of using that talent. I’ve heard many other kids trying to achieve this effect and failing miserably – the Pachelbel’s Canon cover is not original, but this one is exceptional.

200. Eleanor - January 13, 2007

And apologies for double-commenting, but the writing of his own songs is totally irrelevant 🙂

210. HossMonkey - January 14, 2007

Love canon … stumbled as well but think the background “kills your skills!”

211. megatherion - January 14, 2007

typical neo-classical shred guitar. this isn’t as good as the version by the guy who actually transcribed it for guitar (known as Jerry C, from Thailand) – the kid probably got the tablature from guitar world (yes, it was in there) and learned it. all it takes is three weeks of practice or so, and for a guitarist, thats not really that long.

but he shows potential – he made some interesting changes in the ending that sounded pretty good.

shred is pretty typical these days, but i like stuff like this…its got more feeling to it than typical thrash solos.

Seen it before. A guitarist I know was there and he said it’s basically the setting you tune into on the guitar. You find that sweet spot on your amp and you’re set.

Some good talent, but basically just knowing his way around the system.

I love how he hid his face just to spite all the people who thought it was freaking amazing though. Few people would do that anymore — they would stick there face in the camera.

For that, I give him kudos.

266. T.J. - May 7, 2007

Hey Folks,

I’d like to clear a few things up. First of all I have been playing the guitar for 15 years. Mostly blues and jazz. The reason why you are seeing bitter comments from other guitarists stems from frustration. The reason why it upsets you so much, because you don’t need someone telling you what you should appreciate. Now, you can walk into any guitar center in the country and find at least 3 or 4 guitarists technically better than this kid. Sweeps are a guitar effect usually associated with delay pedals. They take a little time to master due to timing, but honestly, the ny times article seems a little too complimentary. Don’t get me wrong, the kid is good. But the comparisons to srv and hendrix are insulting to other guitarists. There is a plethora of guitarists that can play this well or better. SRV and Hendrix were innovators, plain and simple. Vai, Satriani, Buckethead are some of the most proficient guitarists to ever play. But they still aren’t quite the innovators that Hendrix and SRV were, and SRV actually just mimicked alot of Hendrix. Point being, yes this kid is good, but for all of the lauding taking place, it is certainly frustrating. If you are truly that impressed with this guy, then get out there and support your local musicians, the ones who actually compose their own songs. Expand your horizon, push for more new music on the radio. Not every unsigned artist is good, but unfortunately there are a lot of brilliant musicians who go completely ignored, a lot. People tend to look for different things to be impressed by with guitarists. Speed, Soul, Proficiency, etc. No matter what your taste, this guy does not top any lists (at least based on this video). Just another You Tube hype fest. For those who play and are impressed, practice till your fingers bleed and never be satisfied, when you reach this kid’s level, you’ll set higher goals, it’s endless, no one can play the guitar the way they really want to.

267. Josh - May 7, 2007

T.J.,

Thanks for the lengthy response. It’s always nice to see a well thought out comment in one of our posts, amidst all the crap we get 🙂 . I know that there are guitarists better than this kid. But he is fairly good and is playing a fine piece of music.

We live to entertain you.

Josh
